More financial institutions subscribed for Monitise Americas

New 23 financial institutions in the USA adopted the mobile services of Monitise Americas, a joint venture between the UK's Monitise and US fintech group Metavante. Among the companies that recently joined the service there are community banks, credit unions and pre-paid providers. Monitise Americas offers mobile banking and payments services on an "ecosystem" principle which implies a single platform for multiple carriers and financial institutions to deliver their services.

Monitise Americas offers its technology as a downloadable application on Java or Brew and as SMS compatible with more than 200 handsets including BlackBerry models and it supports the top four wireless carriers in the US. The solution allows financial institutions to provide their customers with the relevant tools to pay bills, make balance enquiries, transfer funds and receive mini statements and text message alerts through their mobile devices.

This product was introduced in November 2007. It is based on the similar technology that underlies the Monilink m-banking network in the UK that was conjointly developed by Monitise and national cash machine operator VocaLink.
