A Holland mobile multimedia company, Payter, has permitted to start the roll-out of payments by mobile telephones throughout the country. It was announced that starting from this coming August 9,000 retailers located in six major cities, namely Rotterdam, Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Eindhoven and Arnhem will be able to use the mobile payment system.
The appearance of the mobile payment service was conditioned by the cooperation with CCV, the market leader in electronic payment systems, which allows Payter to offer a fully integrated NFC POS terminal and to expedite the roll-out.
The main goal of Payter is to make the Netherlands one of the world leaders of the mobile payment industry. And the first step it is going to take is to add 100,000 mobile users in 2009. The company is going to provide free Near Field Communication (NFC) Nokia telephones to the population of 6 cities listed above. "Payter aims to ensure that everyone will soon be able to pay by mobile phone. We have taken the first major step towards nationwide coverage," commented Elaine Carpenter, Director of Payter.
According to the company's representative Payter will allow making payments in stores, car parks, cafes, restaurants and cinemas, and also for purchasing all kinds of tickets and gift vouchers with a mobile phone. "Thanks to these combined services, the mobile telephone has now become a truly mobile wallet," concludes Elaine Carpenter.
