Scott Thompson, the president of PayPal, has recently announced on the PayPal blog that the company joined in the industry-wide trend of constructing and maintaining an environmentally responsible and healthy workplace.

The newest PayPal building was open in San Jose, California on May 08 this year. It was designed and built in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Gold standard with many construction and interior materials made of recycled content. Every inch of the roof is covered with solar panels to preserve 15-18 percent of the energy spent otherwise. According to Thompson, the creation of the "green" building goes in accordance with the beliefs of eBay, Inc. which has over 1000 employee volunteers who already contributed to environmental causes.

This coming week PayPal's senior director of merchant services, Cliff Hopkins, will be answering some questions for the eCommerce Journal. Stay tuned!
