Anti-phishing Firefox add-on released by Liberty Reserve

Liberty Reserve API hacked. More than 1M+ was stolen.

Bug was fixed only after 3 months.

A payment processing provider Liberty Reserve announced that it introduced a new add-on for Firefox Internet browser to protect customers from coming to fake Liberty Reserve websites. The processor states that this open source Firefox add-on is meant to alert users when they are on a genuine company website thus preventing potential phishing practices. The company added that the application will also work with other websites.

“With the help of your reports of new phishing web sites we will be able to protect all our clients against this important threat. This open source plug in requires Firefox browser, which is much more secure, in our opinion, than Microsoft Internet Explorer. At this time, this plug in is in beta test mode and is recommended for experienced users. More than 100 users have downloaded already and began to contribute to our safety on-line,” says the company post.

Today phishing websites are being created by the cyber criminals seeking to lure incautious customers to reveal their financial data. These websites are made to look like genuine company Internet pages like Liberty Reserve, PayPal, eBay and others. In case a user doesn’t check the exact URL address of the web site they can fall prey to violators.
