Delta Air Lines and
American Express have announced a multiyear extension of their exclusive Co-
brand Credit Card partnerships today. The two companies have been offering various
cards since 1996 that have provided opportunities to
earn and redeem
Delta SkyMiles®. The multiyear extension allows continuing expanding the scope of this
program, and
it is mutually beneficial.
This partnership agreement will enable Delta to earn $1 billion to its liquidity from a purchase of SkyMiles. Another $1 billion is expected from its contract improvements through 2010.
On the other hand, American Express will benefit by increasing the value of its Co-brand Cards and the Membership Rewards program. American Express Card members will be able to book a travel on the world's largest airline.
Delta SkyMiles program offers its members multiple mileage-earning opportunities while using Delta, Delta Shuttle®, the Delta Connection® carriers, Delta AirElite® and other SkyTeam® airlines. This is its 27th year, and SkyMiles remains one of the longest-running and most triumphant loyalty programs in the travel industry. It had received such honors as "Best Domestic Frequent Flyer program" in 2007 and 2008 by readers of Executive Traveler magazine, "Best Frequent Flyer Program" in 2006 and 2007 by Business Traveler magazine, and "Best Bonus Promotion" in 2007 from InsideFlyer magazine.
