Ruby Rose to Play Batwoman for The CW

The show will follow her journey as an out lesbian and vigilante snuffing out the resurgence of criminals in Gotham, but that doesn't mean you should call her a hero just yet. The character was first introduced in Detective Comics in 1956 and was reimagined for DC Comics' New 52 as a Jewish lesbian.

There's a long-winded explanation involving multiple Earths, but we'll spare you.

The offshoot - which at this point has a script development deal - is set up at Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros.

Batwoman was later reinvented as a gay character herself in the mid 00's. Wertham used Batman and Robin, a man and a boy who run around in tights together, as an example of the homosexuality in comics. The new Batwoman, who was reintroduced in the comic books in 2006, is an out lesbian.

Rose is set to first don Kate Kane's mask and fiery red wig in this fall's Arrowverse crossover event before headlining her own solo series now in development at the network.

Batwoman, provided it becomes a full-fledged series, which seems like a no-brainer would join a literal army of DC-related properties on the network that includes: Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning. However, Kate still deals with her inner demons that go back to her history with her dad. A full-fledged "Batwoman" series is also now in development. According to Variety, the actress will play the titular hero in The CW's Batwoman, the latest addition to the network's growing pantheon of "Arrowverse" shows. "We'll do a pilot for mid-season [and] whether it goes to series, I can not tell you".

In Australia, the Arrowverse programs air on Foxtel. Should that introduction prove successful, and should the character prove popular with the fandom, it's a good bet that the Batwoman series will get the green light for its targeted 2019-20 season.

"There are no plans at this time to have Batman appear", Pedowitz said.
