Osinbajo Sacks Lawal Daura As SSS DG

Nigeria's acting president Prof.

"Mr. Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice", Akande said.

Speaking on the development, the National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus said the United Kingdom should expel President Muhammadu Buhari from the country, alleging that the Nigerian leader planned the siege from there.

Later in the day, Buhari's office denied authorising the move, which comes amid a surge of tension between the president and his political rivals.

Yemi Osinbajo, said the blockade of the National Assembly today by operatives of the Department of State Services was unauthorised and condemned it as a gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all accepted notions of law and order.

But shortly after, the Acting President ordered the immediate sack of the Director-General of the DSS, Lawal Musa Daura.

The statement gave no reason for Daura's dismissal.

Lawmakers loyal to Buhari's All Progressives Congress (APC) are believed to be planning to oust the president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki.

The PDP commended federal lawmakers, Nigerians, the media as well as the worldwide community "who rose in defence of our democracy, even as we remind all not to let down their guards". Saraki had called a meeting of parliamentary leaders to hold on Tuesday amid pressures on the lawmakers to approve funding for next year's election.

He said the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria assures the independence of the legislature.

Secondus in his statement said the United Kingdom should not allow its environment be turned into a haven for anti-democracy conspirators.
