Kepa delighted to have joined Chelsea

One of the main storylines of this summer's transfer window was would happen with the future of Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and what Chelsea would do at the goalkeeper position.

Chelsea FC moved quickly to bring in a new shot-stopper after Courtois finally completed his move to Real Madrid following months of speculation about his future.

Kepa became the most expensive goalkeeper when Chelsea chose to meet the buyout clause in his contract with Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, eclipsing the £56m that Liverpool paid Roma for Alisson last month.

Despite posting a heartfelt message to Chelsea fans - and being part of two title-winning squads - Courtois' kind words were not replicated by the Stamford Bridge faithful and he had to delete his post.

Kepa played 30 times in La Liga for Bilbao last season and kept seven clean sheets as the Basque side finished 16th in the table. Everyone just said congrats and they gave me a fake World Cup and they put it above my locker.

He also sustained a gut-wrenching defeat to Real in the 2014 Champions League final, when his new captain Sergio Ramos's injury time header denied Atletico glory, leading to Real winning 4-1 in extra-time.

"There won't be additional pressure on me".

Chelsea had to move quickly to find a goalkeeper after it became clear Courtois was determined to force through a £35m move to Real Madrid.

Bilbao are notorious non-negotiators, only selling their players for the fees of their release clauses or for the demanded club fee. Chelsea has made a great bet in taking me in.

"I received better paid offers but I wanted to be in the best club in the world and be close to my children".

"I know the supporters are maybe not too happy at the moment, but I wish them all the best and I hope they remember me well".

"I want to thank Athletic for the love and respect they have instilled in me during these years and I'll always take that with me".
