Everton beats Man Utd to sign Barca defender

The Toffees have announced that Brazil worldwide Bernard has joined on a free transfer, while Barcelona have confirmed that Yerry Mina has moved to Goodison Park on a permanent basis, and Andre Gomes has made the same switch, having left the Nou Camp on loan. Now, it seems they have set their sights on Chelsea outcast Zouma.

Zouma spent last season out on-loan with Stoke City, who were relegated from the Premier League. With his prospects unlikely to improve much at Chelsea this season, a move away from the Bridge makes sense.

The central defender is undergoing a medical at Everton ahead of a potential loan move from Chelsea, according to the Telegraph's Chris Bascombe.

Manchester United's eagerness to sign a centre-back this summer has been all too well known.

But, the Manchester United boss has only been met with disappointment in his bid to sign a centre-back, the latest coming in the form of Diego Godin's reported rejection.

He has not made an appearance in any of the pre-season fixtures under new manager, Maurizio Sarri.

Toby Alderweireld, Yerry Mina and Jerome Boateng have all been linked with a move to Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho is desperate to strengthen his defensive options, but slow progress on all three deals may force United to turn to Zouma instead.

Everton have beaten the clock to secure the transfer of Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Bernard before the window closed, the club announced on their official website.

Colombian International Yerry Mina is close to finalising a permanent switch to English Premier League side Everton from Barcelona.
