Trump, Putin Meet for One-on-One Summit in Helsinki

Just days after the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller yielded indictments against 12 Russian intelligence agents - the first time Russian government officials have been charged for efforts to interfere with the 2016 election - Trump said that seeking assurances from Putin that the charged individuals would be extradited to the United States to face the charges was not at the top of his mind.

He said their discussions will involve trade, the military, missiles, nuclear weapons and China, including their "mutual friend", Chinese President Xi Jingping. And I really think the world wants to see us get along.

"We have not been getting along well for the last number of years", Trump said as he and Putin sat down at the Presidential Palace in Finland's capital.

"We have frankly not been getting along too well for the last number of years ... as I campaigned, getting along with Russian Federation is a good thing not a bad thing", Trump said. I said well it's too early to say but right now I say we're competitors but for the United States, and frankly the UK and other places, to get along with Russian Federation and China and all of these other places.... that's a good thing, that's not a bad thing.

Already contentious, the Trump-Putin meeting comes just days after the office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller announced on Friday the indictment of twelve Russian military officers, charging them with directly taking part in an the alleged effort by the Russian government to interfere with the 2016 USA presidential elections. "We are the two great nuclear powers", he said. He wrote on Twitter that Obama "thought that Crooked Hillary was going to win the election", so he did "NOTHING" about it when informed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Question for President Trump as he meets Putin: "Do you know which team you play for?"

Friday's indictments "ripped down any veneer or respectability from Vladimir Putin and proved he's a common thug who tried to infiltrate American democracy and it's all there in black and white" Scarborough said.

In a March 1 speech, Putin detailed several new nuclear weapons, each time stressing that U.S. defenses could not handle the new designs.

Mr Putin may find Mr Trump more sympathetic than his most recent predecessor, whose former colleagues have slammed Mr Trump for the way he deals with foreign leaders.

Having campaigned on a promise to improve ties with Putin, Trump's meeting the Kremlin leader over the objections of US lawmakers after a grand jury indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers on Friday for their alleged role in meddling with the 2016 election.

"Unfortunately, no matter how well I do at the summit, if I was given the great city of Moscow as retribution for all of the sins and evils committed by Russian Federation over the years, I would return to criticism that it wasn't good enough".

May appeared perplexed when revealing what she said Trump's advice was, and laughed when the BBC anchor asked her if she had given the idea any thought.

About the most innocent explanation you can offer for Trump's muted attitude toward Russia's and Vladimir Putin's 2016 actions is that he doesn't like to talk about it - that he feels the whole thing undermines his legitimacy as president.

"I'm representing our country", Mr. Trump said. We need to talk about it, " Bolton said.

"Presidents Trump and Putin respect each other and they get along well", he told Russia's RT television.

"Well, I might", Trump replied.

The previous two questions were about Russian Federation, and then Trump is asked about who his biggest global foe is right now.

The US responded with sanctions, but Obama served out the rest of his term refusing to provide lethal weapons to the Western-leaning Ukrainians trying to fight back Russian Federation. China is a foe economically, certainly they are a foe.
