President Trump attacks Democrats over increasing calls to abolish ICE

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) told CNN's Chris Cuomo on Thursday night that she doesn't think U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement "is working as intended".

A former spokesman for ICE has defended his former colleagues by saying that the agents who are taking children from their parents and locking them in cages feel bad about it.

President Donald Trump on Saturday praised ICE agents as some of the "smartest, toughest and most spirited", law enforcement officers in the United States and criticized Democratic lawmakers calling for the agency's abolishment.

The question was posed to de Blasio following the Democratic primary results in New York's heavily-Democratic 14th Congressional District, which saw an upset victory from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. On Tuesday, upstart progressive candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old middle class Latina from the Bronx, shocked the political world by unseating longtime Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley in a NY primary.

But the latest ICE protest, this time in the shadows of City Hall Friday evening didn't stop at a call for change in US Immigration Policy.

Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif has said that the USA should consider "starting from scratch" while Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., announced Monday that he would be introducing a bill to abolish the agency.

The letter, first shared by The Texas Observer, explained that certain ICE agents "have been perceived as targeting undocumented aliens, instead of the transnational criminal organizations that facilitate cross border crimes impacting our communities and national security", and that as a result, their work has been inhibited.

It's unclear in what fever dream Trump witnessed ICE's liberation of town after town from the clutches of MS-13, but ICE's competency is not in dispute: they have none.

Upping the ante, Trump tweeted that all law enforcement is in the Democrats' cross-hairs.

He wrote in another tweet: "To the great and courageous men and women of ICE, do not worry or lose your spirit".

His comments come as democrats double down on their calls to abolish the agency after the president said there was "zero chance" of that happening.

Why do Dems want to abolish ICE?
