Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown season 3

Her Majesty the Queen has gotten a makeover.

Netflix on Sunday released the first image of Olivia Colman as the long-reigning monarch in the popular series.

The creator of the series, Peter Morgan, has previously talked about the need to re-cast the royal roles every two seasons, due to the increasing ages of the characters.

Other cast replacements include Tobias Menzies from Outlander, who will take over from Matt Smith and Prince Phillip, while Helena Bonham Carter will step into the role of Princess Margaret, replacing Vanessa Kirby.

Colman is known for her work in films like Murder on the Orient Express, and TV shows Broadchurch and Fleabag. 'You can't ask someone to act middle-aged. "Someone has to bring their own fatigue to it". I'm excited to see her in this role, and all fans of the series should be, as well! I was utterly gripped watching it, a proper "just one more" feeling. "I will miss the actors, and I will just feel forever grateful and privileged that I got to play this part and be a part of this show".

We've been salivating for more of The Crown since season 2 dropped on Netflix last December.

If you're unfamiliar with Olivia's work, I suggest hopping on Netflix and watching Broadchurch or Peep Show right this minute, because this woman is unbelievable!

"In a previous interview with Radio Times, Olivia discussed taking over the role from Claire and said: "[She is] f****** wonderful and it's a very hard act to follow".

Season three of Netflix's "The Crown" is now filming, and is expected to debut on the streaming service in all its British glory some time in 2019.
