No Idea When All Cave Boys Will be Rescued, Prayuth Says

No Idea When All Cave Boys Will be Rescued, Prayuth Says

Two of them have been taken by ambulance to hospital while another two were airlifted, but none of them were stretchered out.

Narongsak Osottanakorn, who is in charge of the rescue mission, said Saturday conditions were now "perfect", BBC News reports.

Parents of the four boys rescued on Sunday were allowed to see them through a glass window at the hospital, public health officials said on Tuesday, but they will be quarantined for the time being.

Officials have said storms forecast for Chiang Rai province in Thailand's far north had factored into their decision to go ahead with a complicated and unsafe plan to have the boys and their coach dive out of the cave.

"We are giving them a physical examination".

She believes the boys are still alive thanks to their coach.

ABC News' Matt Gutman reports on the ongoing effort in Thailand to rescue the trapped soccer players and their coach.

Four boys among a group of 13 trapped in a flooded Thai cave for more than a fortnight were rescued on Sunday after surviving a treacherous escape, raising hopes elite divers would also save the others soon.

Four more boys were brought out Monday from a deep cave in northern Thailand where four others were rescued on Sunday, Thai navy SEALs announced, with a local official saying the plan is to extract the remaining four boys and their soccer coach on Tuesday.

The day's operation started at 11 a.m. after divers finished reinstalling oxygen tanks and doing rope checks along the exit route that includes flooded narrow passageways.

In comments released by the government, Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda said the same divers who took part in Sunday's rescue will also conduct the next operation as they know the cave conditions and what to do.

Narongsak said Sunday morning two divers would escort each of the boys out of the cave.

Another four were rescued on Monday and the last four boys and the coach were brought out on Tuesday, prompting rounds of spontaneous applause as ambulances and helicopters passed.

Meteorologists say there is a 60 per cent chance of further rain on Monday.

"The next operation is not expected to start for at least another 10 hours", rescue chief Narongsak Osottanakorn told reporters, as remaining members of the group remain trapped inside.

The mini-sub was being tested in California and, if successful, it will be flown on a 17-hour flight to Thailand, a spokesman for Musk's Boring Co. said, adding that Thai officials had requested the device.

The entire operation to rescue all 13 could last two to four days, depending on weather and water conditions, said army Major General Chalongchai Chaiyakam.

The rescue teams had rehearsed the plan for several days, Narongsak said, and had managed to drain the cave water level considerably, but needed to move fast. The pause will give divers time to prepare gear, including masks and refilling air tanks, for the next round of rescue efforts.

President Donald Trump tweeted Sunday: "The U.S.is working very closely with the Government of Thailand to help get all of the children out of the cave and to safety".

The Thai navy SEALS confirmed that four boys have left the cave.
