Netflix is Launching a New Smart Download Feature

Netflix is Launching a New Smart Download Feature

- The next time youre on Wi-Fi, the app automatically deletes that episode and downloads the next available one.

With Smart Downloads, the Netflix app will detect when a user has watched an episode, then remove it from the device and automatically add the next episode.

Netflix is figuring out how to make TV work on your smartphone, where downloading a TV show can mean less room for selfies or devour your data plan.

Netflix wants to start keeping your downloads fresh for you.

We're not seeing Smart Downloads live in our most recent update of Netflix for Android, so stay tuned.

Previously, any show you wanted downloaded to your phone had to be done manually.

A new Netflix feature just made binge-watching your favorite shows even more tempting. You watch, we do the work.

Smart Downloads is rolling out now for Android users, and will be available soon for those with an iOS powered device. Here, use the toggle to turn Smart Downloads off. Under "Downloads", users will be able to turn Smart Downloads on or off. "We also want to emphasize that giving consumers more control over their entertainment experience is at the heart of everything we do", Johnson said. And as smart downloads only happen when connected to Wi-Fi, you don't need to worry about the feature eating up your data.

Netflix was reluctant to add offline download support to their mobile application.

However, it's first available only on Android devices.

You watch episode 1 of the show and finish it. Again, Smart Downloads will immediately delete downloaded episodes once users are already finished watching all of them. Netflix also recently released its first show produced in India, Sacred Games.
