Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton watch Serena Williams compete in Wimbledon final

Serena Williams goes for her eighth Wimbledon title but her tilt at equalling Margaret Court's record 24-grand slams is likely to be delayed on Saturday afternoon.

Kerber looked impeccable during her 6-3, 6-3 win over Ostapenko where she dragged her young opponent all across the court. When Williams defeated Kerber in the 2016 Wimbledon final, she was supported by royalty of a different kind, with Beyonce and Jay Z among her supporters.

She remains on 23 grand slam titles, one short of the all-time record of Margaret Court - just as Woods most likely will find it hard to advance from 14 majors, four behind Jack Nicklaus.

Williams, who attended the Suits alum's royal wedding to Prince Harry in May, previously teased whether or not she expected Markle to watch her play at this year's tournament.

Left-hander Kerber drew Williams into longer rallies that brought out errors.

She held for 5-2 and Williams needed the tennis equivalent of a hole-in-one.

'It's a dream come true, you are such an inspiration for all us, that's wonderful and I'm sure you will have your next Grand Slam title very soon, ' Kerber told Williams. Williams first came back by playing doubles with her older sister, Venus, for the U.S. Fed Cup team in February.

The women's final at Wimbledon is here and features an epic showdown between two former Grand Slam champions. "I think it is a completely new match", Kerber said.

At the time, it seemed like Kerber was setting herself for an extended period featuring at the pointy end of grand slams and maybe even Williams' most likely successor as the best women's player in the world.

The first set was over in just thirty minutes, and Williams knew she needed to step up a gear.

The crowd were clearly wanting to see history made and any support Kerber had was subdued. If she loses to Goerges, not that great, ' Hantuchova said on TV. "I think that's a good thing because I put so much pressure on myself when I was trying to get to 18, then the rest, it was so much".
