Liverpool open talks with Stoke City over Xherdan Shaqiri transfer

Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Shaqiri and their interest has been public knowledge for some time know, but the club have finally officially opened talks with the Potters over a potential £13 million transfer.

Jürgen Klopp is keen to add the 26-year-old to his attacking options for next season and the winger wants to remain in the Premier League following Stoke's relegation to the Championship.

Shaqiri joined Stoke from Inter Milan in August 2015 for a club record fee of £12m.

Jurgen Klopp has been eyeing Shaqiri as a potential acquisition since before the World Cup and he is now prepared to make his move to trigger the release clause embedded in the Swiss winger's contract.

Following Stoke's relegation, Xherdan Shaqiri looks to be on the move, so we've taken a look at some of his best moments from last season.

The Reds expect no issues on personal terms with Shaqiri once that is sorted.

With Switzerland back from the World Cup after being eliminated by Sweden in the Round of 16, negotiations can progress and Shaqiri "has been considering his options since his involvement in Russian Federation was ended". A deal for the Lyon captain may yet be resurrected after France's World Cup campaign, however.

Liverpool have already strengthened their squad this summer with the £39m signing of Monaco midfielder Fabinho and the arrival of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig.
