"My boyfriend's family was freaking out when I went to swim with the sharks and I was like, "it's fine", she continued.

A Florida student, who is also a model, says she's lucky to be alive after being bitten by a shark during a photo shoot.

She had her boyfriend's father take photos of her in the water surrounded by them. "What happened was an accident, and I don't want to throw the shark under the bus", Zarutske said.

Alongside photos from the misguided shoot, she wrote: "PSA: Sharks are cute and can nibble at times if not careful".

"Nurse sharks are calm creatures", she told BuzzFeed News, adding that she had seen many Instagram photos of other people swimming with the creatures.

"[The doctors] now believe that I still have pieces of the shark teeth in my arm and I will forever have a scar", said Zarutskie, who noted she was anxious about the injury affecting her burgeoning modeling career.

There is actually a sign at the marina telling people that the sharks do occasionally bite, and that people swim at their own risk, but Katarina claims that she didn't see it.

"I don't regret it, and I would do it again to bring awareness", she said. "I was pulled underwater for a few seconds and then ripped my wrist out of the shark's mouth as fast as I could". Zarutskie managed to wriggle free, but she knew if she thrashed around and dripped blood in the water, she might attract more sharks-so instead, she calmly stood up, grasping her wound to stanch the flow of blood, and was able to get of the water.

Katarina has not let her experience stop her from enjoying and respecting the ocean.

"I would recommend people to do it, but be smart about it".

The shark grabbed her and took her under the water. She had to get several stitches and was put on a round of antibiotics. Zarutskie said she respects all wildlife and is grateful her injuries were not worse.

"You can't even predict how another human is going to react to situations, let alone an animal".
