"Money" made $275 million in salary/winnings - with the bulk of that coming from his fight against Conor McGregor - and $10 million in endorsements.

His nickname is "Money" so it comes as no surprise that Floyd Mayweather has topped the Forbes annual list of the world's 100 highest-paid athletes.

Barcelona's Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi took second place with $ 111 million in revenue. The group draws from 68 different countries, then narrows it down to the 100 most famous athletes in the world.

Phil Mickelson, who is going for the career grand slam at next week's US Open, was next on the list in 22nd ($41.3 million) for the golfers and he was also the oldest athlete at the age of 47 to make the top 100. "You all are true champions".

His rival Ronaldo, who was top of the list the two previous years, drops to third with $108m. That stems largely from his fight in August with UFC fighter Conor McGregor.

McGregor was one spot behind Ronaldo, at $99 million. Last year, Kohli's earning through salary and winnings was $3 million while brand endorsements earned him $19 million. LeBron James $85.5 M 7.

Federer made the most money in endorsements at $65 million. He's followed closely by three-time major victor Jordan Spieth in 23rd ($41.2 million) and Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy in 26th, the only non-American golfer on the list. It is safe to assume that Woods will soar up the list in 12 months time thanks to the form he has demonstrated during his unlikely and heartwarming comeback.

British racing driver Lewis Hamilton is 12th in the list, with boxer Anthony Joshua 25th - and sure to rise if he can continue knocking out opponents.
