Senegal, Japan, Uruguay fans tidy up after team plays in World Cup

"Now we need African coaches for our continent to go ahead", Senegal's Aliou Cisse said through a translator on Monday, a day ahead of his nation's World Cup opener against Poland.

The Lions of Teranga became the first African nation to win a game at the ongoing tournament in Russian Federation after defeating Poland on Tuesday.

"It's true I'm the only black coach in this World Cup, but really these are debates that disturb me", he told reporters, as quoted by AS.

Cisse, who was captain of the talented Senegal team that got to the last eight in 2002, is optimistic, however, it will eventually come.

Federation Internationale de Football Association did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"Africa is full of quality and we're on the way", said Cisse. "We are very good in our tactics, and we have the right to be part of the top worldwide coaches".

However, most Germany and Bayern fans were not amused by his post due to the country's close ties with Poland and Robert Lewandowski's presence there.

He is the World Cup's only black coach, but said it was about the progression of the African continent, not skin colour.

Senegals win was the first for an African team at this year's World Cup, and the significance of this is certainly not lost on the coach, who at 42, is also one of the youngest coaches at the tournament. We won the 1996 Olympics by beating Brazil and Argentina with all their stars. "We face realities that are not there in other continents", he said, referring to infrastructure, budget and organisational problems.

A lack of minority managers also has been documented at the club level.
