Sanford: Trump is being allowed to lie without consequences

Trump took aim at Sanford on Twitter just hours before the polls closed Tuesday in SC.

With 99 percent of precincts reporting, state Rep. Katie Arrington was leading Sanford 51 percent to 47 percent when The Associated Press called the race. During the 2016 presidential election, after Trump ventured to Capitol Hill to meet with Republicans, Sanford came out of the meeting telling reporters, "I wasn't particularly impressed". That just crossed the 50 percent threshold to avoid a runoff later this month between the top two contenders.

SC voters are getting their chance to weigh in as voting began Tuesday for the state's primary elections, with a hotly contested governor's race at the top of the ticket.

Arrington will face Joe Cunningham (D) in the general contest for the opportunity to represent the 1st Congressional District.

"The race ultimately was reduced down to who was more Trump, versus not, and I lost that race", Sanford acknowledged.

At age 65 and having already served as the mayor of Chattanooga and a United States senator, Corker is nearly certainly done running for any more elected offices. Those midterms may be more consequential than usual this time around, as Democrats hope to take the House back from the Republicans and, with it, the opportunity to impeach President Donald Trump.

"I think we're working hard and we plan to win this primary", McMaster said. In 2009, he disappeared for several days, creating a scandal that ended with an extramarital affair with a woman in Argentina.

A vocal critic of President Donald Trump accused him of lying in a new interview and said the lack of consequences stemming from those lies will hurt society moving forward. Trump urged South Carolinians to vote for McMaster and Arrington hours before polls closed.

"There's a temptation, given the American public's frustration with the political system, .to throw the baby out with the bathwater, and 'let's discard all these institutions that have served us incredibly well for 200+ years, '" Sanford said. "They were all good candidates, but I think he has access to Trump that the others just don't have". He is the second House Republican to lose a primary this election cycle. He went on to attack Trump's penchant for lying and distorting facts.

The district, which includes Charleston and the southern coast, has not elected a Democrat since 1978.

Comstock's district in the Washington suburbs, home to many federal government workers, has drifted left in recent years. Trump won the district in 2016 by a margin of 53% to 40%. How much should we take away from that?

Some of the other notable races were taking place in Virginia, where Democrats are seeking to capture some of the 23 Republican seats they would need to reclaim the majority in the U.S. House. Heidi Heitkamp. In the swing state of Nevada, Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen sailed to the nomination to face vulnerable Republican Sen.

Voters in ME will be the first in the nation to use the system in a statewide election that lets voters rank candidates by preference rather than choosing just one. Under the system, last-place candidates are eliminated and votes reallocated until there's a victor.

Turnout was generally light, a state election commission spokesman said early Tuesday afternoon.

If it comes down to that, then Secretary of State Matt Dunlap said winners won't be announced until sometime next week.
