Liverpool target Thomas Lemar set to sign for Atletico

Maybe Thomas Lemar's proposed move bodes well for Antoine Griezmann's future at Atletico Madrid.

The France worldwide, who is in Russian Federation for the World Cup, joined Monaco in 2015 from Caen and made his global debut in November 2016.

Griezmann has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Atletico Madrid in recent seasons with Barcelona widely expected to be his next destination. The clubs have also clarified that they would be working together to reach a definitive agreement in the coming days, with the La Liga side looking to make a serious impact on the Spanish league next season.

There was a moment of comedy during Tuesday's France news conference, when an eager Spanish journalist tried his best to get the scoop on Antoine Griezmann's future.

But last week Lionel Messi said he was sure he would link up well with Griezmann were he to move to the Camp Nou.

"I am very sorry, I know you have all been waiting but I will not give my decision today".

Lemar and Griezmann are a part of the France team that will begin their Group C campaign against Australia on Saturday, before facing Peru and Denmark in the group stage.

He's now preparing for the World Cup with France but given how far along the Liverpool transfer was, there's every chance his head is still on Merseyside.

Griezmann bagged 29 goals in 49 games for Atletico last term and is regarded by many as one of Europe's most talented forwards.

"Today is not the day to talk about my future", the 27-year-old insisted.
