Legally Blonde 3 Release Date Announced

Legally Blonde 3 Release Date Announced

On Thursday, none other than the beloved Elle Woods actress Reese Witherspoon herself updated the world with the news on social media.

Legally Blonde debuted 17 years ago and told the story of Elle Woods, a fashionable sorority queen who is dumped by her boyfriend.

Released in 2001, "Legally Blonde" grossed $141 million worldwide, while the 2003 sequel, "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde" raked in $124 million. Both comedies were critically and commercially successful, and now Reese Witherspoon will be coming back as Elle Woods for the third time. Witherspoon is now filming season two of HBO's hit drama series Big Little Lies and is in pre-production on her untitled TV project for Apple, starring alongside Jennifer Aniston in a series that is said to be a behind-the-scenes look at a morning TV show broadcast from NY. But now, it is time to bend and snap once again because Legally Blonde 3 is happening.

Deadline reported that Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine company will produce the film along with MGM and the original film's producers, Marc Platt and Platt Productions president Adam Siegel. And, the writers of the original, Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah, will return.

Witherspoon took to Instagram to post a video that nods to a scene from the Legally Blonde franchise. Fans have seen Witherspoon promote her latest project, share the flawless beach shot, and send out the ultimate Mother's Day greeting. She let them down nicely, writing "This house is so pretty, but it's not mine!"
