Kyrie Irving weighs in on his contract, potential reunion with LeBron James

Irving spoke with the media on Tuesday and answered several questions, including some about his contract status. Especially with a point guard situation featuring just one more year of Terry Rozier's rookie contract behind the ultra-talented Irving, while both Marcus Smart (restricted free agent) and Shane Larkin (unrestricted free agent) hit the open market this summer.

Well, because the Celtics are set up to become a very, very expensive team over the next few seasons - and, over the next three years, those bills are going to come due.

Irving, who missed the end of the regular season and the entirety of the Celtics' playoff run due to injury, said he's "feeling good".

Though he's a man who wants to live in the present, Kyrie Irving knows he's going to get bombarded with questions about his future.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers have all been widely speculated as attractive destinations for King James to call home from 2018-19 onwards, but the Boston Celtics appear to be making a charge at acquiring the 14-time All-Star.

Irving, who made an instant impact for the Celtics before being sidelined by a knee injury in March, was coy when asked about a potential reunion with arguably one of the greatest players in the history of the National Basketball Association.

"For me, I'm just glad everyone got to learn how special they were on a bigger stage". The 33-year-old James has a player option to remain in Cleveland next season but could opt for free agency. "I think around this time it's around 15 weeks until the third week of September, so I'm excited to just really utilize this offseason to dedicate myself to my craft and things outside of it". Ownership and management, they're going to do what's best for our future and I'm fully supportive of it. "That's really the only thing I'm anxious about".

Irving is expected to be ready by the start of training camp in the fall.

"I'm truly grateful to be able to speak with management and our coaching staff", Irving said.

Via the Tim Kawakami podcast, here's what ESPN's Chris Haynes had to say about the possibility of a LeBron becoming a Celtic. "And the challenge is, now we have championship pedigree". "In this business, I've kind of experienced it all", Irving said when asked about reuniting with James.

That's how Boston acquired Irving last summer - and why there are merits to moving on from him this summer.
