June 21 - International Yoga Day | Here’s How PM Modi Begins Celebrations

Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in his address said that "it was matter of pride for Uttarakhand residents that they got an opportunity to do yoga along with the Prime Minister" and thanked the PM for choosing Uttarakhand to host the fourth International Yoga Day event.

The 67-year-old leader, who lobbied for worldwide recognition of Yoga Day in 2014, landed in Dehradun, Uttarakhand late Wednesday, but was up early to take his position on a bright orange yoga mat.

The events began with the live telecast of the speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the screens installed at the venues following which they performed yogic exercises. The enthusiasm of getting from "illness to wellness" is spreading from the busy streets of the South Korean capital, Seoul, to the foot of Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Mr. Modi said the way to lead a calm, creative and content life was yoga. "It has become a powerful unifying force", he said. Past year he participated at an event at the Ramabai Ambedkar Sabha Sthal in Lucknow.

Mrs Ugalahia said although Yoga used to be seen as an act of worship or spirituality by Indians and Buddhist, it has evolved in recent years.

He asked people to embrace yoga not just for a healthy, but happy and peaceful life.

About 7 million people die each year from breathing polluted air that can lead to heart disease, stroke and lung cancer, the World Health Organization said in a report last month, most of the deaths happening in Asia and Africa. Commenting on the event, he remarked "The event is a great way to express and spread the love and peace among people, as well as to expand the knowledge and also acceptance of the heritage of other's nation", she said.

"After only 4-6 months of doing yoga once a week, I was pleased to discover that numerous physical symptoms and pain had greatly subsided or disappeared", says Rola.

To make the event more relatable to the audiences in the UAE, Saba Khan, founder of House of Nature, a holistic alternative medicine and natural therapy in Abu Dhabi, has created a special Arabic Fusion Yoga.

Asides from the physical benefits, one of the best benefits of yoga is how it helps a person manage stress, a condition known to have devastating effects on the body and mind.

Rajasthan today witnessed a world record by conducing the largest yoga session to mark the International Yoga Day at Kota where over one lakh people together performed yogic exercises.
