IL officer saves 1-year-old seen running on highway

A young boy who was running on Route 59 in the Chicago suburb of Naperville was rescued last month by a police officer, and the incident was caught on camera.

The officer said he immediately slammed on his breaks.

"I have twin boys, and there's not a day that goes by where something bad happens, you always think of your own kids", Mannino said.

Once Mannino stops his auto, he runs after the boy, shouting "come here".

Cars continue to drive by in the left lane as the scene unfolds.

The little boy had gotten away from his mom and shortly after he was rescued she arrived on the scene and was visibly shaken.

When Mannino catches the boy, the dash cam footage shows him telling him "You're OK, you're OK", then asking the boy his name.

"It could have definitely had a very tragic ending", Mannino added.

"Luckily, no one was hurt, and we attribute that to Sgt. Mannino's observation while on patrol and quick reaction, placing his squad vehicle and himself between the child and traffic", the department wrote on its Facebook page.

"Well done, Sergeant", the police department wrote on their page.
