IHOP to IHOB name change 'dumbest' move ever, brand experts warn

IHOP to IHOB name change 'dumbest' move ever, brand experts warn

IHOP didn't actually say what the B in "IHOB" will stand for.

The breakfast joint's acronym, coined for its host of worldwide pancakes, teased the news earlier this week to drum up press - and encourage its customers to guess what its new name could possibly stand for - with plans to do the official reveal on Monday.

What would the "b" stand for?

The tweet says,"For 60 pancakin' years, we've been IHOP".

International House of Bacon? Now, we're flippin' our name to IHOb.

The popular breakfast chain hinted at the possibilities on Twitter with options like biscuits, bacon, butternut squash and also a curve ball choice of barnacles. Its curious customers would have to wait until June 11 to find out.

So for many Arabs, IHOP has always been known as IHOB.

Once IHOP revealed on Twitter about the name change and "p" is soon going to be replaced with "b", speculations started doing rounds. The change could be prompted after Dine Brands Global, the parent company of IHOP, announced in late February that it would close 30 to 40 IHOP restaurants to acquire and grow small chains that offer healthy food.

"Hey IHOP ... in that case, I'd recommend redesigning your logo, because now it says, visually, "International House of Tampons", one person tweeted".
