Bentley Bentayga breaks SUV record at Pikes Peak

Rarely does the thought of a luxury SUV eating the corners come to mind, and Bentley thought it was high-time to fix that with its Bentayga's latest record at the annual hill climb event.

Bentley's Pikes Peak Bentayga was a bog standard vehicle with just the addition of regulation safety kit, but its 600bhp, adaptive suspension, electric 48V anti-roll control and carbon ceramic brakes conspired to crush the previous record by almost two minutes, setting a time of 10:49.9 and averaging 66.5mph through Pikes Peak's 12.42 mile, 156 turn climb. Dumas' new all-time record of 7m 57.148s is now top of the list of Pikes Peak champions, which includes such acclaimed drivers as Loeb, Walter Röhrl, Michèle Mouton, Stig Blomqvist, Nobuhiro (Monster) Tajima and the father and son duo of Rod and Rhys Millen.

"What an incredible machine. I'm delighted to take the SUV record for Bentley and for everyone that's been involved in this project".

To celebrate the record, Bentley has announced a production run of 10 "Pikes Peak Bentayga" special editions. Limited to just 10 models, the SUV will feature a number of interior and exterior design elements in the same shade of Radium green that covers the Pikes Peak vehicle.

The Pikes Peak Bentayga features of number of eye-catching elements. "On the outside, the Pikes Peak Bentayga can be painted in either a Beluga black paint or Radium, while it rides on 22" wheels in a bespoke two-tone finish of Beluga with Radium accents. An additional carbon fibre package adds a front splitter, side skirts and a rear diffuser and spoiler in the lightweight material. Subtle Pikes Peak motifs are seen on the front fenders. Alcantara has also been added to the seats, doors, steering wheel and gear lever.

Bentley are marking the record-breaking feat with a new Limited Edition Bentayga. In order for it to be eligible in participating at the hill climb, a roll cage was also fitted together with a fire suppression system. The Bentayga Sports Exhaust and Touring Specification pack complete the vehicle. Customers in the U.S. and Europe can order one starting in August.
