Utah State Men's Cross Country Recognized for Academic Performance

Over the past 12 years, Duke has ranked among the nation's top FBS institutions in terms of raw number of sports receiving the April public recognition awards: 2018 - 1.

Baseball, men's cross country, women's golf, men's hockey, women's and men's tennis, and women's swimming and diving all extended streaks for picking up April awards. All Division I teams' April scores will be released May 23.

The seven squads earning a Public Recognition Award marks a school record, besting the previous record of six teams recognized with the prestigious honor in 2012-13.

This is the 13th year that Academic Progress Rate (APR) data has been collected for Division I schools.

Georgia Tech matched a school record with five programs earning NCAA Public Recognition Awards for multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores that rank among the top 10 percent nationally in their respective sports, the NCAA announced on Wednesday.

The honor is the second in-a-row for the men's basketball team and the seventh for the field hockey team, which has won three national championships during the four-year measuring period.

Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I April. The women's golf team was honored for the eighth-consecutive year. The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship, accounting for eligibility, retention and graduation.

"We are very proud to have four of our programs receive the NCAA's Public Recognition Award this year", UA Director of Athletics Greg Byrne said.

The Pepperdine teams honored were men's cross-country, golf, track and field and volleyball and women's cross-country, golf, swimming and diving, track and field and beach volleyball.

The University at Buffalo's women's tennis team received April recognition, while Niagara's men's and women's cross country, men's tennis and women's volleyball were also honored by the NCAA. Nine teams earned a 100 percent GSR in the NCAA's 2017 report.

All Division I programs' April scores will be released publicly on May 23. Penn State's 31 NCAA titles since 1992-93 lead all Big Ten Conference institutions.
