Trump tweets 5 key ISIS leaders captured

Iraqi forces in coordination with US -backed Syrian forces have captured five senior Islamic State group leaders, the USA -led coalition said Thursday in a statement.

The tweet did not specify when or where the five were captured or give any names, but it did categorize the individuals as "key ISIS leaders" rather than "most wanted" as stated in Trump's post. But the militants still pose a threat along the border with Syria and have continued to carry out ambushes, killings and bombings across Iraq. Jamal was shown on Iraqi state television on Wednesday night, wearing a yellow prison uniform. After American and Iraqi intelligence agents extracted banking and communication codes from Ithawi's phone, Iraqi agents lured the other men into their trap and arrested them.

Baghdadi, who declared himself ruler of all Muslims in 2014 after capturing Iraq's main northern city Mosul, is now believed to be hiding in the Iraqi-Syrian border region after losing all the cities and towns of his self-proclaimed caliphate.

The news comes just after Islamic State militants re-pledged their loyalty to the group's leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi last month.

Two Iraqi intelligence officials said those captured included four Iraqis and one Syrian whose responsibilities included governing ISIS' territory around Deir el-Zour, Syria, directing internal security and running the administrative body that oversees religious rulings.
