Tech stress? Google pitches artificial intelligence to help unplug

Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, and Google's Assistant were meant to be controlled by live human voices, but all three AI assistants are susceptible to hidden commands undetectable to the human ear, researchers in China and the United States have discovered.

The new visual experience is making its way to Google Assistant on Android first this summer, followed by iOS later in the year.

The new voices were all synthesized from WaveNet, which makes Hollys voice possible.

"It's clear technology can be a positive force, but it's equally clear we just can't be wide-eyed about about the innovation tech creates", Google CEO Sundar Pichai said on stage at his company's I/O conference here.

Another feature called "shush" mode automatically turns on the "Do Not Disturb" function if someone turns their phone face down on a table.

In two demonstrations, one setting up a hair appointment and another a restaurant reservation, a realistic-sounding automated voice used pauses and "ums" and "mmm-hmms" to sound more human during interactions with people.

Nonetheless, everyone is excited about the new Google Duplex, with Engadget even saying that the Google AI Assistant may have beaten the Turing test. It will supposedly run on the Bixby platform and build on the Samsung ecosystem allowing you to not only make inquiries but run your entire Samsung-based smart home with it. Reports say that the Bixby speaker will be making a debut in the second half of 2018. Pichai said during keynote, "We know the path ahead needs to be navigated carefully and deliberately". Who knows what the next 10 years will bring: Maybe Google Assistant will be able to do actual work for you, or apply to jobs for you in the background, like the way AI is portrayed in the 2013 movie "Her".

Google's Full Coverage view, using a technology called Temporal Colocality, is a literal wide-angle look at the day's news, sort of like physically opening a newspaper to its full width. The new feature will give suggestions for complete sentences as you start typing. It can also convert photos to PDFs and automatically add color to black-and-white photos or make part of a color photo black and white. "We'll be experimenting with the right approach over the coming months". It is the company's newest artificial intelligence engine for natural language.

Other than starting a wave, the attendees at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, don't seem that into it.

In case there are some of you guys out there feel that Google Assistant is lacking in terms of voice options, you might have heard that at Google I/O 2018, the company announced that their digital assistant will be getting six new voices.

Its an SDK (Software development kit) for app developers so that they can add all the AI smarts and Google's ML tools in iOS and Android apps. According to the Business Insider news portal, the Google News service with the use of Artificial Intelligence will also highlight the articles a user might be interested in and help in search for detailed information on particular subjects. It went back and made improvements.
