Slavisa Jokanovic: Fulham winger Ryan Sessegnon is a 'special' talent

The west London outfit will await the result of Aston Villa and Middlesbrough on Tuesday night to see who they will face at Wembley Stadium, the first time the Cottagers will appear at the National Stadium in 43 years.

After a plethora of first-half chances went by the wayside, Sessegnon broke the deadlock in the 47th minute when he lashed home from close range and then set up Odoi with an in-swinging corner.

For Derby it was a third play-off semi-final defeat in five years and they are condemned to an 11th successive season in the second tier.

"For some reason tonight, we made lots and lots of wrong decisions, " he told Sky Sports. But that's what these games do, they test you and you've got to show nerves of steel.

He said: "Fulham are a good side, we know that".

An appearance at Wembley will be the first in a long time for the Whites, and the manager knows that it is a great opportunity to return to the Premier League.

"In the second half we pushed stronger, scored two fantastic goals, and I must be really satisfied for the team".

He said: 'The first leg we were defensively faultless, we were absolutely superb in defence.

And Rowett says the club will look at recruitment in certain areas in the summer to ensure the club bounce back at the next possible attempt.

"A draw will take us through, but I don't think that you can play for a draw".

Slavisa Jokanovic branded Ryan Sessegnon "special" after the teenage sensation helped Fulham to reach the Championship play-off final.

He added: "I've been here before in different ways". Tonight, we gave everything but it just wasn't quite enough.

On reflection, Rowett believes that this season has been one of moderate success, and he also praised the mental strength that his team showed to get themselves into the top-six. "You get tests in life and it's how you bounce back".
