Invite us to form government, Congress tells Goa Governor

After Goa and Bihar, Congress leaders in Manipur and Meghalaya have now sought time from the respective Governors of the state for a meeting tomorrow.

It may be recalled that after the March 2017 assembly election, despite the Congress winning 17 seats and emerging as the single largest party in the state, the Governor had invited BJP and its alliance partners after they showed the strength which proved to be a majority. The Independents also won 3 in 40-member Assembly.

Naik also said that the state has been without a leader for over two months now, given that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has been away from work due to poor health.

Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala swearing in BS Yeddyurappa as Karnataka chief minister on Thursday has stirred up a hornet's nest, making things increasingly tough for Narendra Modi government and BJP across the country.

Seeking adoption of the Karnataka example in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, the former deputy CM of the state said the party would be holding a one-day dharna tomorrow against the "murder of democracy in Karnataka". If necessary Congress can parade its MLAs also at Governor house. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also asked the Bihar governor Satya Pal Malik to dissolve the assembly and invite his party to form a government in the state.

"RJD is the largest party in the Assembly, and we (Congress) are with them". Should he first invite the BJP, as the single largest party, to form the government or recognise the post-poll alliance between the Congress and JD (S)? Why double standards? Congress state President Girish Chodankar told reporters. In the Manipur poll held a year ago, the Congress had won 28 seats in the 60-member House and the BJP 21.

Responding on the prevailing political conditions in Karnataka where BJP formed government despite not having required numbers, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi's son Tejashwi Yadav has come down heavily on Saffron party.

Congress once again was the single largest party with 21 seats in Meghalaya but National People's Party (NPP) led by Conrad Sangma was able to form the new government with the help of other smaller parties even though it had scored victories on only 19 seats, two less than the Congress.

The BJP-led government in Goa is headed by Manohar Parrikar, who is now undergoing treatment in the U.S. for his pancreatic ailment. The JDU-BJP alliance have 131 seats in the 243 assembly.

The Congress, which emerged as the single largest party in the Goa Assembly election with 17 seats, had approached the apex court.

However, RJD is the largest party with 80 MLAs. The Congress is frustrated because the party is being wiped out in India.

Meanwhile, Congress has issued a notice to all Pradesh Congress Committees, leaders and party workers to organise state-wide protests at state capital and district headquarters against the Karnataka Governor's decision to invite BJP to form government in the state. Congress has 27 MLAs in Bihar.

"I will meet the Governor along with our MLAs as we are the single largest party in Bihar", tweeted Yadav.
