Google is also updating commands for the Logitech Harmony hubs, so you can use better voice commands for anything that's integrated with your A/V system.

That's impressive, but Google Assistant still trails Alexa from a compatibility perspective: By some estimates, Alexa is compatible with over 11,000 smart devices, more than double the count of Google Assistant. We're also making it easy to turn any TV into a smart TV with Chromecast, so you can easily control what you're watching with the Google Assistant from smart speakers like Google Home. Rolling out this month, DISH's Hopper family of receivers will work with the Google Assistant, so people in millions of USA homes can operate their TV using their voice and a Google Assistant device.

The Google Assistant can now connect with more than 5,000 devices for your home - up from 1,500 this January, Google has announced. Media and entertainment queries such as "play SportCenter" have surged 400 percent in the past six months, according to the company. The company has also revealed that it's working with its partners to bring the Assistant to the next-generation of TVs that will be available later this year. The devices that it supports include security systems, dryers, lights, plugs, thermostats, fans, locks, sensors, doorbells, cameras, refrigerators, and many more. This Nest product was the first to ship with this feature, and we'll enable Assistant notifications on more home security devices from other popular brands later this year.

All the Google Home integrations are wrapped up in the existing Explore page, so if you have smart stuff in your house and you'd prefer to control it with your voice rather than your smartphone, it's worth checking what's compatible.

Amazon doesn't offer exact information on the number of devices that support the Alexa assistant, so it's hard to truly compare which platform is making the most progress.
