Ekiti APC guber primary stalemated, suspended indefinitely

The Ekiti state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) on Wednesday night reacted to claims by Governor Ayo Fayose that some of its aspirants planned to monetise Saturday's governorship primary, describing it as figment of his imagination.

"The Primaries chairman has spoken to the National Chairman after consulting with the aspirants".

They later went back to the canopy where voting was taking place and smashed the ballots boxes on the floor.

Gboyega said the action led to abrupt end of the primaries with delegates and party members scampering for safety.

The leadership of the party had delegated Tanko Al-Makura, to chair the committee which organised Saturday's primary.

Gboyega Adeoye, ERO spokesperson, said the State had been under siege preparatory to the primaries as "ferocious looking armed mobile policemen that came in company of the Minister, seized all the major streets for days, in reckless display of show of oppression and terror".

Gboyega also maintained that the former governor has previously promised to violently get the party ticket.

Fayemi had alleged that some desperate elements, including Babafemi Ojudu and Bimbo Daramola, two other aspirants, conspired to thwart the exercise because he was leading.

Naija News gathered that trouble erupted at about 5.30pm when some agents aired their displeasure as to how the process was being allegedly compromised, accusing the men of the Department of State Services (DSS) of dictating to delegates who they should vote for. "When they saw that I was the one being called, they started feeling the heat and they were determined to disrupt it".

Dr Fayemi said the aspirants resorted to violence and destruction, having realised that he was already in a clear lead in the five local governments that had cast their votes.

"We are ready for Fayemi, we have always campaigned for a transparent primary election because we have the people on our side".

"I don't believe that is correct".

The Ekiti people are set for the APC and we will make sure we produce a candidate that is acceptable to the people."he said".

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the party, through its State Publicity Secretary, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun said what the governor had just displayed by raising "false alarm" was a sign that he was afraid of an impending loss by his party of the July gubernatorial election.

"If the party could be this violent during their own primary election, won't they do worse things during the election proper?"
