Cincinnati, LSU granted permission to contact QB Joe Burrow, per report

LSU and Cincinnati have been granted permission to speak to potential graduate transfer quarterback Joe Burrow, according to two reports. Burrow will have two seasons to play at his new school. He had been competing with redshirt sophomore Dwayne Haskins for the starting job at Ohio State.

Now that Burrow has made a decision to transfer, he gave Meyer no choice but to anoint a guy early, which, in turn, saves Ohio State from going down a similar rabbit hole. Burrow broke his throwing hand late in camp, and Haskins became the de facto No. 2, holding that job for the remainder of the season even after Burrow got healthy enough to play.

Burrow bested Haskins in the spring game last month.

"The Cyclones like what they have in the QB room with senior starter Kyle Kempt and coming up the ranks are Zeb Noland, Brock Purdy and Re'Al Mitchell, but Burrow would raise ISU's ceiling". Meyer, without going into much detail, said at the start of spring ball that he owed Burrow some kind of answer by the end of spring.

"I came here to play. I didn't come here to sit on the bench for four years", Burrow told the Columbus Dispatch in March. I don't know. Two is scary, you want to have a minimum of three. He threw for 1,438 yards with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions. Could Iowa State, coming off a surprisingly successful 8-5 mark in 2017, be in the contention to land the former backup for the Buckeyes? But mostly, he said Burrow and Haskins were always close.

247Sports' Chris Hummer had this to say about why it would be wise for Campbell to explore adding Burrow to the roster. A redshirt junior, he still has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
