Buttler spurs Rajasthan to 15-run IPL win

Buttler spurs Rajasthan to 15-run IPL win

Rajasthan, as captain Ajinkya Rahane (9), got the first blow.

Buttler's rapid-fire hitting helped him ease past 50 in 27 balls as he built the innings with Sanju Samson. Rajasthan Royals, who have been guilty of their star players underperforming, would need them to step in and take onus as teams now hustle for the last qualification spot. Dismissed Unadkat in his final delivery to claim four wickets on the night. As the ball was getting older, it got tougher to bat on.

WICKET! Full toss outside off by Tye, Stokes isn't able to connect well and hands it straight to Ashwin.

The urge to cash in on the PowerPlay overs forced Karun Nair to tread a risky path and his mistimed slog ended in Unadkat's hands.

STUMPED! Smart bowling by Mujeeb. Sodhi quickly bowled his three overs in a go and leaked miserly.

WICKET! The partnership is broken thanks to Mujeeb.

Samson, a crowd favourite, scored 13 off Ashwin's third over before Mujeeb induced an ambitious shot from the Kerala batsman, who made an 18-ball 22. The Englishman has taken the attack to the opposition and has shown intent and determination at the crease. By the end of the 12th over, Nath and Manoj Tiwary were both gone and the score was 66. Kings XI needed 51 runs off 30 balls but Rahul finished the game with one over remaining.

Despite the loss they suffered on the day, Kings XI Punjab are still in a pretty comfortable position, at Number 3 on the points table. Two days back, they were chasing 153 and were in all sorts of trouble at 87/4. Rajasthan's record on this home ground has been better in this season, where they have won two out of three matches, and this is an only positive thing that will give strength to the team.

Rajasthan Royals - who stepped out to bat first - couldn't capitalise on a good innings that Jos Buttler attempted to build in the beginning because of the wickets that kept tumbling at regular intervals.

Rajasthan Royals Jos Buttler (wk), D'Arcy Short, Ajinkya Rahane (c), Sanju Samson, Ben Stokes, Rahul Tripathi, Krishnappa Gowtham, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Anureet Singh, Jaydev Unadkat Probable changes: Heinrich Klaasen in for D'Arcy Short, Dhawal Kulkarni in for Anureet Singh.

Over 15: 92/6, Kings XI Punjab need 67 runs in 30 balls.

The Rajasthan Royals and the Kings XI Punjab meet up once again on Tuesday but this time at RR's backyard in Jaipur. While the first of the two fixtures got over on Sunday, the next one will see Kings XI Punjab making a short trip to Jaipur to face the Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

With Star India now acquiring the media rights from Sony Pictures Network India for the upcoming season, the matches will be telecast on various Star Sports channels.
