'Avengers: Infinity War' becomes fifth highest-grossing movie of all time

Well, the aforementioned The Fate of the Furious opened to $190 million in China and went on to gross about $383 million there when all was said and done.

In an interview with the Huffington Post, Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed the status of a host of offscreen Marvel characters, although did say some were "too spoilery" to reveal. It continues to set records, as its global tally of about $1.608 billion makes it the highest-grossing superhero film at the worldwide box office.

With these opening weekend numbers, AIW has already surpassed Marvel's previous best finishes including Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Iron Man 3 and Doctor Strange.

That makes it now the fifth highest grossing film of all time worldwide, with room to carry on moving up the ranks.

The Marvel and Disney blockbuster earned $200 million just for its opening in China this weekend. The Melissa McCarthy film debuted at No. 2 with $18.5 million. As some readers have questioned, if the Avengers go back in time and get the Infinity Stones, wouldn't that impact Thanos retrieving the Infinity Stones in Infinity War? One thing was that at a later point in the process the decision was made to not move forward with the filmed plate of Nick Fury - instead we would do a camera takeover and switch to a full CG shot.

$200 million opening weekend haul in China powers Avengers: Infinity War's global total to $1.05 billion. It's going to pass "Jurassic World" at No. 4. It's also the first superhero film to breach the $1 billion mark in worldwide total, besting Ultron's $946 million global takings and The Avengers' $895 million.

The Marvel-Disney superheroes' mega-haul now stands at $547.8 million domestically and over $1.6 billion globally in its third week of release.

It's next hurdle is Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $2.06 billion. Plus as a spunky teen superhero, she would be the ideal character to introduce as part of the young generation of heroes like Spider-Man and Black Panther's Shuri (who is not a superhero yet, but I can dream) to lead the future of the MCU.
