Arsene Wenger finally names his pick to take over as Arsenal manager

Arsene Wenger has insisted that former Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta "has all the qualities" needed to become the club's next manager.

The Manchester City assistant coach, who also played for the Gunners, has emerged as the frontrunner to succeed at Arsene Wenger after the Frenchman ended his 22-year stint at the north London club.

Arteta, now Man City's assistant coach, has expressed his interest in the role to both Pep Guardiola and City's Director of Football Aitor "Txiki" Begiristain, who have given the former Everton and Arsenal midfielder the go ahead to complete the move.

Another fan we asked, Harry, believes he is the right man for the job and said: "I like the idea of it... he has a good philosophy he wants to bring in".

"I believe it is important they make their choice in an objective way and after made that decision I will support him".

Despite that, Arteta has no experience as a "number one", but this isn't something that worries Wenger, who says there is plenty of experience in the backroom team at the Emirates.

The BBC's David Ornstein has insisted that Massimiliano Allegri is still in the running for the Arsenal manager's job (via The BBC).

Arsenal players have been left "stunned and upset" by the shock sacking of long-serving physiotherapist Colin Lewin, after 23 years with the Gunners. I don't want to influence that [decision] publicly.

Arsenal appointed Raul Sanllehi as head of football relations and named Sven Mislintat as the head of recruitment while Wenger was still at the helm, loosening the 68-year-old's grip on the club's wider operations.

"But they didn't ask me, so that takes the weight away from me..."

"No, not at all", he said when asked if he'd been involved.

'He has been an assistant of Guardiola as well. "I can't imagine doing anything else". "Spontaneously, I would say I still want to coach but I can't really say that yet for sure".
