West Ham boss Moyes: Rice must learn from this

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that the disunity among fans of the club was a factor in his impending exit.

But facing the media for the first time since Friday's shock announcement, Wenger relented and gave an insight into what precipitated his departure when he had another season remaining on his contract.

The 68-year-old Frenchman announced on Friday he would step down at the end of the season after nearly 22 years at the helm. I just feel if my personality is in the way of what our club is... the fans were not happy, I have to understand that.

I believe what is interesting for people is to know who is in charge of the team and the future of the club.
"Winning the Europa League would be a ideal send-off for him", he told Sky Sports.

Wenger, though, defended his record at the club and believes Arsenal are in a far better shape to succeed than when he arrived at the club in 1996.

David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus were all on target as City outclassed the Swans in their first match since being crowned Premier League champions.

The Gunners are now preparing for their crunch home clash against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their semi-final on Thursday night.

Moyes was speaking after his side's 4-1 defeat to Wenger's men at Emirates Stadium, the visitors having capitulated in the final eight minutes as they surrendered a point that Marko Arnautovic's fine strike looked set to earn.

The French forward made it 3-1 with a close-range shot in the 85th minute, before using his sidefoot to hit Arsenal's fourth four minutes later.

He added: "I don't know, it does not depend on me".

"I will never completely leave this club, because my first look will be the result and how the club develops", he said.

"I must say I am touched by all the praise I got from English football and I am grateful for having had that experience in this country that is for me special", he said.

"Especially for me, he brought me here as a 17-year-old so I owe him a lot".

"So you can not just walk away and say, 'Thank you very much, bye bye.' You can not be on one side completely committed and then walk away like nothing happened". I know that I face that challenge and it will be hard for me, but I have had other hard challenges in my life.

"I hope he learns from it because he has got big potential".
