Watson leads Chennai to victory; Bravo claims 2 wickets

A day after Chris Gayle blitzkrieg decimated SunRisers Hyderabad, it was Shane Watson's turn to hog the limelight with his third Indian Premier League (IPL) ton in 51 balls as Chennai Super Kings defeated Rajasthan Royals by 64 runs in Pune on Friday.

Backing up fellow T20 veteran Chris Gayle's whirlwind ton against Sunrisers Hyderabad last night, 36-year-old Shane Watson showed why he still has plenty to offer besides his decades of global experience after a stunning century off just 57 balls. As a result, the entire team got bowled out for 140 runs in 18.3 overs.

Buttler and Stokes did get together, to put up 45-runs for the fourth wicket to spark some sort of a contest but then Bravo got Buttler off a slower ball to extinguish all hopes.

Chennai Super Kings: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf du Plessis, Harbhajan Singh, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar, K M Asif, Kanishk Seth, Lungi Ngidi, Dhruv Shorey, Murali Vijay, Sam Billings, Mark Wood, Kshitiz Sharma, Monu Kumar, Chaitanya Bishnoi, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Shardul Thakur, N Jagadeesan.

With no assistance on offer, the RR bowlers needed to be disciplined with their line and length, but they were guilty of bowling either too full or short to Watson, as he freed his arms and found the fence regularly. Watson was in regal touch as the Australian pummelled Royals bowlers after being dropped in the opening over, bowled by Stuart Binny. Left-handed Stokes, who can turn the match on its head, was also dismissed soon and writing was clear on the wall. He hit six sixes and nine boundaries in his innings, and scored 104 off just 57 balls, at strike rate of 186. The job only got tougher for Royals bowlers. He is now the top scorer and top wicket-taker for CSK but on Sunday he will be up against one of the most balanced sides in this IPL. Capitalising on an early life after being dropped on eight, the former IPL Player of the Tournament raced to his half-century off just 28 deliveries to set a monster platform for the home side.

There was no stopping Watson from the other end.

5- CSK is the only IPL franchise that had crossed the landmark of 200 runs 14th times in the IPL.
