Trump Says DNC Lawsuit Will Expose Information Related to Clinton Email Scandal

At a time when US President Donald Trump is trying hard to settle the probe into the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election in the US fast and his legal team also included former NY mayor Rudi Giuliani towards that aim, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) filed a lawsuit against the Trump campaign, Russian government and also Wikileaks alleging a widespread collusion to influence the outcome of the 2016 election.

It was not immediately clear what Trump meant by his comment or who he was referring to.

It also says a close Trump advisor, Roger Stone, appeared to have "advance knowledge" of plans by the anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks to disseminate some of the stolen information - as part of what the suit alleges was a wide-ranging illegal conspiracy to influence the election.

"Just heard the Campaign was sued by the Obstructionist Democrats", Trump said in a Twitter post on Friday.

"This frivolous lawsuit is a last-ditch effort to substantiate the baseless Russian collusion allegations by a nearly-bankrupt Democratic Party still trying to counter the will of the people in the 2016 presidential election", a statement issued by Donald J. Trump for President Inc said.

The suit was denounced at the time by Nixon's attorney general, John Mitchell, who called it a case of "sheer demagoguery" by the DNC.

"This constituted an act of unprecedented treachery: the campaign of a nominee for President of the United States in league with a hostile foreign power to bolster its own chance to win the presidency", he said. That litigation is still in progress.

While there are multiple investigations of Trump and his campaign, most significantly by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, Perez said the DNC chose to move ahead with a civil suit because the committee believed there was an ongoing threat of foreign interference in US elections and it was unclear when Mueller's investigation might conclude.

While the investigation is ongoing, Perez said the DNC made a decision to move ahead with a civil suit because the committee believed there was an ongoing threat of foreign interference in US elections and it was unclear when Mueller's probe might conclude.

Stone said the lawsuit was based on "a left-wing conspiracy theory".

"I think we have a very serious criminal activity underway in this country by the Russians and possibly by those within the Trump campaign, and to make this political is actually the wrong thing to be doing", she explained on CNN.

"I'm not interested in a political tit for tat".

Earlier on Friday, memos by ex-FBI director James Comey detailing his conversations with Donald Trump were published. The DNC's lawyers could request documents related to the alleged collusion in the discovery phase of the trial, during which lawyers on both sides ask for material relevant to the suit.

Democrats have similarly been critical of President Barack Obama for not doing enough in 2016 to fight back against Russian Federation.
