Trump lawyer handled $1.6 million payoff for Republican donor

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel accepted the resignation of Broidy as the deputy finance chairman of the RNC, a source familiar with the call told CNN, shortly after The Wall Street Journal first reported the payment.

In a statement on Friday, Broidy acknowledged that he had a relationship with a Playboy Playmate and offered to help her financially after she told him she was pregnant. "She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this hard period", he added. He became Trump's inaugural committee vice chairman and had an Oval Office meeting with the president in October 2017, according to documents TheNYT obtained. The committee has not returned Wynn's donations.

"Federal investigators are reportedly sifting through Cohen's records seized in the raids to check for evidence of bank fraud, but they have also stumbled upon a veritable treasure trove of 'thousands of privileged communications", according to Cohen's lawyer, Todd Harrison.

He also admitted to paying Stephanie Clifford, who works in the adult-film industry under the name Stormy Daniels, $130,000 less than two weeks before the 2016 general election.

Cohen's alleged involvement in the matter follows accusations he made payments to women in order to protect Trump. Daniels sued Trump on the grounds that the non-disclosure agreement she signed regarding the affair was invalid. We have not spoken since that time.

It's not clear what role, if any, Cohen had in that transaction.

Michael Cohen reportedly negotiated a $1.6 million settlement on behalf of Republican fundraiser Elliot Broidy. He's also a member of the board of directors of the Republican Jewish Coalition.

Former RNC finance chair Steve Wynn resigned earlier this year after report on accusations of sexual misconduct going back years involving Wynn and women who provided massages at the Las Vegas hotel he owns.

Broidy's name, meanwhile, has also come up in connection with the Russian Federation investigation as Mueller has looked into whether foreign governments sought to push policies favorable to them within the Trump campaign or administration. The New York Times has described him using his access to Trump to push for policy moves, including the firing of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, that were backed by leaders in the United Arab Emirates, where Broidy has lucrative defense contracts. The first payment was due on December 1, the report says. Just last month, Broidy hosted a Los Angeles fundraiser for Trump. It was not clear if Broidy met with the president during that trip.

The woman alleged that Mr. Broidy had paid her for an exclusive sexual relationship of one to two years, one of the people said. Broidy claims that Cohen learned about the matter from Davidson then contacted Broidy, who agreed to hire Cohen to negotiate a deal. The woman had said she was pregnant and he was the father.

"I would like to sincerely apologize to my wife and family for the hurt that I have caused", Broidy said.
