Reasons Why The Patriots QB May Retire In The 2018 NFL Offseason

If Tom Brady, who is not taking part in Patriots voluntary workouts this week, decides to retire this offseason as has been speculated upon by the likes of ESPN's Adam Schefter - expect Patriots Nick Foles NFL trade rumors to heat up.

First, Brady said, "You know, I certainly hope so. Things can change. But I do believe he will be playing".

Meanwhile, it assures that Brady is committed to at least playing another season, and it should silence the chatter that he could be stepping away this year.

It's hard to imagine the Patriots, let alone the National Football League, without him. However, commentator Skip Bayless told Fox Sports 1's "Undisputed" that he is convinced Brady doesn't want to play for Belichick anymore. If there was a year where they might strike and grab Brady's replacement, this could be it.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski has also missed the start of the offseason program while he continues to contemplate his future. "I didn't like practicing in the snow, I didn't like practicing in the rain, but that was going to make us a better football team, and that was going to make me a better football player".

Brady has done this numerous times in the past, and according to ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss, he and Julian Edelman were already putting in some work at Gillette Stadium ahead of this week's offseason program. With four picks in the first two rounds, the Patriots are in a nice position to restock their roster with some talented young players.

In Brady's 16 seasons as a starter for the Patriots, he has led them to eight Super Bowl appearances, winning five of them.

In isolation, the #23 and #31 pick aren't likely to be enough to sign one of this year's top quarterback prospects.

If Brady does return this season - again, most expectations are that he will - the Patriots may need to begin considering their long-term relationship with Brady.
