Offa Robbery: We Have Arrested Seven Suspects, Say Police

Seven persons have been apprehended by police in Kwara State in connection with invasion of some banks in the Offa area of the state on Thursday evening.

He revealed further that more police personnel have been deployed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, to aid the investigation and promised that all hands are on deck to ensure arrests of the suspects.

The report quoted a witness as saying that he saw the corpses of six policemen after the robbery operation and that the robbers made away with millions of naira after shattering bank buildings, terrorising workers, customers and passersby, as well as traders and other people in the vicinity.

Reports say the robbers numbering up to 30 split themselves into teams to rob five banks including Guarantee Trust Bank, Eco Bank, First Bank, Union Bank and Zenith Bank in the town.

The gang of armed bandits, that reportedly numbered more than 15, raided five banks, carted away the undisclosed sum of money and took lives of policemen and civilians.

"Seven vehicles abandoned were recovered from the armed robbers". Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who died in the armed robbery attack in the town today.

The governor had earlier ordered that the victims be relocated to Ilorin from Offa for adequate treatment. "I'm in constant touch with the security agencies in the state and I have urged them to do all within their powers to secure Offa and environs and bring the perpetrators to justice".

"Make no mistake, there will never be any valid grounds or rationale behind such violence, that has left many families without their loved ones, and one more community in grief and shock".

He added, "I spoke to Governor Ahmed to offer my condolences over the lives that were lost in the attack, and we both agreed that no stone will be left unturned until the perpetrators of this heinous act are caught and brought to justice".
