National Film Awards: Posthumous honour for Sridevi

Malayalam movie Aalorukam won the award for the best film on social issues, while Hindi detective thriller Irada emerged as the best film on environment conservation. Best Action Film went to Baahubali.

In the movie directed by Ravi Udyawar, Sridevi played a mother who sets out to avenge her step-daughter, essayed by Pakistani actress Sajal Ali.

The 65th National Film Awards were announced on Friday by the jury that included screenwriter Imtiaz Hussain, lyricist Mehboob, actress Gautami Tadimalla, Kannada director P Sheshadri, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Ranjit Das, Rajesh Mapuskar, Tripurari Sharma and Rumi Jaffrey. He also bagged the award for the best music director for Mani Ratnam's Kaatru Veliyidai. Malayalam actress Surabhi Lakshmi won the Best Actress award for her role in Minnaminungu.

The news is bittersweet as her death is yet to sink in and also incredulous as it's nearly impossible to believe that this is the late screen legend's first ever National Award. "She was not just a super actor but a super wife and a super mom", the statement read according to The Quint. Sridevi's husband and producer Boney Kapoor said that he isn't sure whether to laugh or cry in this situation. "You can't really decide how people will respond to your film as it's an artform that can be interpreted and appreciated differently".

"Rima Das" "Village Rockstars", about the spirit of poor but fun-loving children, also won the Best Editing honour for the filmmaker. She also won the best actress award in Goa past year for the International Film Festival in India for the film.

Best Film Critic award was given to Giridhar Jha for his writings covering vast horizon of Hindi cinema with authenticity and originality.
