Mourinho: 'We were deservedly punished. We were masters in complication'

Jose Mourinho has congratulated Manchester City on their Premier League title triumph before complaining that his players made Sunday's shock loss to West Brom too "complicated".

"Rotating is not the right word - if I play a player against Bournemouth and the player is phenomenal, he plays the semi-final".

The United boss has now vowed to drop some big names ahead of Saturday's Wembley semi-final against Spurs, with changes also in mind for Wednesday's Premier League trip to Bournemouth. By the hour mark, Mourinho had brought on attacking players Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial for central midfielders Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba but things didn't really improve.

"Or do you want me to go for the price they cost, or their salary, or their lovely face or... They won because they were the best team and lost only a few points". "Probably because I won eight championships, I was not in the moon with the victory against them because that doesn't make me feel super happy". It was only three points.

"But I won't stand here and start slagging people off because that's not what I'm about".

"West Brom is a club I care about a lot", he said.

"I had a feeling when I woke up this morning", Kompany said. You don't win titles with inconsistency.

"It's unbelievable. The first time you win it, you think you'll win all of them". Last season we finished sixth and this season we are going to finish, hopefully, second.

"You can't take it for granted.before you know it, it's gone".

"We're all winners and we want to win and in those games unfortunately we didn't". Pep Guardiola has transformed his side into one of the best sides ever to play in England, and has masterminded this excellent season.

Paul Pogba struggled to reproduce his match-winning performance against Manchester City and was taken off in the 58th minute against West Brom, but Mourinho insists the decision was a effect of the France global receiving a yellow card.

"Unbelievable season for us", said midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, perhaps City's standout player over the past eight months. "There was a period of adaptation for him coming into the league and for us taking in his methods. One team was dominant in Germany and one had [Lionel] Messi, but we are nothing without the team".

"I met players who are 30 years old, not consistent at all, and I found boys of 18, 19, 20, real men, real pros, so it is not about the age". "This club is absolutely fantastic in all terms". This transpired a week after the Red Devils won at the home of the Premier League champions.

Paper Round's view: Not one for massive commitment, the prospect of extending his contract by just one year will only leave the door open for questions surrounding his long-term commitment.

Newcastle United virtually guaranteed their Premier League safety as they came from a goal down to beat Arsenal 2-1 at a spring-like St James' Park yesterday.
