Cubs and Cardinals postponed Wednesday due to inclement weather

He was eligible to return on Monday, but the Cubs' game against the Cardinals was postponed because of poor weather.

Looking ahead: Luke Weaver will get the start in the 1:20 p.m. game on Wednesday. Tickets to Wednesday's game will be honored on Thursday. No ticket exchange is necessary.

The Cubs went 14-5 against the Cardinals last season, posting their highest winning percentage (.737) in the series since 1978 (15-3, .833).

The gametime temperature was 35 degrees, and a 10 miles per hour wind made it feel like 29. The heaters roared in each dugout, and the announced crowd of 35,103 bundled up in winter coats, hats and blankets.

Each starting pitcher struggled with control, but Wainwright (1-2) deftly navigated his way through five effective innings.

Baez finished 3-for-4, with a double added to the homer.

This postponement marks the fifth of the season for the Cubs, with four of them coming in the past 10 days.

Chatwood's wildness caught up to him in the third. He struck out four times, along with his home run, and has now struck out 29 times in 62 at-bats this season. Marcell Ozuna then drove in Pham with a grounder to shortstop. Also, their matchup with the Braves on Saturday, in which Chicago came back from an eight-run deficit, was a game that probably should not have been played.

First baseman Rizzo believes a reduced campaign would improve the sport, despite the likely financial impact. Rizzo had been sidelined by lower back tightness.
