Candlelight Vigil Planned To Honor Slain Yarmouth Police Officer

According to a Facebook post by Yarmouth police, Nero has survived emergency surgery and is being treated for his injuries.

At the time he was shot, Gannon was serving a warrant with his dog, Nero, and other officers from Yarmouth, Barnstable and the state police.

Latanowich, 29, has been arrested numerous times, according to police and court records, though many of the charges were later dismissed.

Police said Gannon was serving the arrest warrant at a home in Marstons Mills when he was shot and killed by Latanowich. He was held without bail in Barnstable District Court on Friday.

Yarmouth Police Chief Frank Frederickson called Gannon a "remarkable young man". "The sky was the limit for him".

"We refer to him as the Tom Brady of the Yarmouth Police Department and he's gone".

Latanowich features an extensive history of runins with regulation enforcement and was linked to 111 former legal charges, police stated in a face-book article.

Gannon was attempting to serve the suspect a warrant when he was shot, and was apparently searching the home's attic to find the suspect when it happened, according to News 7 Boston. "I hope that everybody out there appreciates the work that police officers across the country do everyday". He previously was a police officer at Stonehill College.

Latanowich was taken into custody about an hour after the shooting and will be arraigned and charged with murder for Gannon's killing, said Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe.

"We are also praying to night for its retrieval of Officer Gannon's k 9 spouse, who was also hurt in today's tragic incident", state police said in a statement.
