Arie Luyendyk Jr. Provokes Outrage With Foolish Pregnancy Prank

Arie Luyendyk Jr. Provokes Outrage With Foolish Pregnancy Prank

Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Lauren Burnham didn't get the message that pregnancy April Fools' jokes aren't amusing to those struggling with infertility.

On Sunday, Luyendyk tweeted a photo of a woman sporting a baby bump whose face could not be seen with the words "Secrets finally out, we have a bunny in the oven!" and tagged fiancée Lauren Burnham.

Many followers, however, didn't find Luyendyk's attempt at humor amusing and said it was done in "poor taste" considering some women's struggle to get pregnant.

"I do have sympathy for women struggling from infertility", Luyendyk wrote.

Later in the day, he admitted the reveal was just a prank, writing, "APRIL FOOLS!"

"I apologize if you were effected personally by my post".

Someone else told Luyendyk Jr. that he could "be better than that". "I wish nothing but the best for Arie and Lauren but this is not amusing, it's cruel", another person tweeted. People weren't laughing after the Arizona-based racecar driver shared a photo of a burgeoning baby bump and the caption: 'Secrets finally out, we have a bunny in the oven!' He tweeted an hour later, "APRIL FOOLS!" "And we're both very excited about marriage and starting a family".

By now we know no April Fool's Day can pass without some tired-and-true "joke" about a fake pregnancy.

If you really want to do April Fool's, honestly, come up with something new already.

Fans of Bachelor Nation and beyond were not happy with the joke, while others on social media took the joke more seriously, citing problems couples have had trying to conceive and how it's nothing to poke fun at.

Some users thought people were being overly sensitive and couldn't take a joke that they believed Luyendyk intended as good-natured fun. Luyendyk announced in the season finale he broke up with Kufrin two months after proposing to her to be with Burnham. The finale featured an excruciating 40-minute unedited scene of Kufrin, 27, weeping as Luyendyk explained he could not stop thinking about Turnham. The reality TV stars, who recently returned from a trip to Europe, have made a decision to live under one roof and have documented their move on social media.
