Vikings Among Several Teams Reaching Out To Free Agent QB Drew Brees

The Vikings have allegedly reached out to veteran Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who has yet to sign an extension with the team.

Brees set an National Football League record for completion percentage (72.0) last season despite throwing for his fewest yards (4,334), touchdowns (23) and interceptions (eight) in his 12 seasons with the Saints.

As for that second Super Bowl championship - well, that seems more realistic than it has in a while, too, after the Saints went 11-5 past year and came one miracle play away from reaching the NFC Championship Game. But the objective for me was - I've made it known from Day 1 that I want to be in New Orleans (and) stay in New Orleans; I love our team. The Minnesota Vikings reportedly reached out to Brees' agent, and one team even had a deal in place that exceeded the Saints' offer to the star QB, per ESPN's Mike Triplett. Other teams such as the Denver Broncos are also looking for a franchise quarterback and they could take shots at Brees and Cousins as well. He remained productive within a toned-down New Orleans offense that featured less passing by Brees and more running by Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. "So, I think it is a fair deal for the Saints and a fair deal for Drew". All of that money would have hit this year's salary cap if Brees hadn't signed a new deal by March 14. He joined Brett Favre and Petyon Manning in that exclusive club.

Brees was always expected to re-sign with the Saints. Coming off throwing-shoulder surgery, Brees led the Saints - who had gone 3-13 the year before he arrived - to their first NFC title game.
